MBNA Adult Ski Program for ages 19-99 (formerly Masters Program)

Description: This class is open to both adults who have never Nordic skied before as well as intermediate skiers who want to refine their skate and/or classic technique.  This year we will divide the beginner and intermediate skiers into two classes, depending on the number of people who register.  With enough people of both ability levels, we will hold intermediate class on Mondays and Wednesdays and the beginner class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Please note this schedule is subject to change depending on the number of people who register and the coach's availability.  This is not a racing program:  the point of the class is for every participant to increase his or her enjoyment of recreational skiing by learning to ski better.

  • Who is Eligible?:  Anyone who is at least 19-years old and who wants to have fun learning to ski or to ski better.
  • Season:  Monday, January 4th, 2010 to Thursday, March 4, 2010
  • Fee:  $115 for MBNA members, $135 for non-members.
  • Practice Schedule:  Beginner class -- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 - 5 pm;  Intermediate class -- Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 - 5 pm.
  • Location:  Happy Jack ski trails.  Skiers will meet for practice at the warming hut at the Tie City trailhead, off of the Happy Jack Road (Wyoming Highway 210) 12 miles east of Laramie.
  • Class Format: Participants can choose to ski both skate and classic, or one or the other. This year’s class will be taught by  two coaches, both capable of teaching skate and classic techniques.  The bottom line is that the coaches will attempt to provide as much individualized instruction for each person regardless of which ski technique(s) they wish to focus on.
  • Equipment:  Skis, boots, and poles suitable for either classic or skate techniques are required. Some participants may wish to ski only one technique, which is fine. Every participant must provide his or her own equipment, which can be rented from Cross Country Connection (2nd & Ivinson, 721-2851), Fine Edge Ski & Cycle (1660 N. 4th St., 745-4499), or Westgate Ski & Sports (1979 Snowy Range Rd., 742-6742). Warm clothing is essential and you may want to bring a water bottle.
  • Class Size:  Minimum of 8 skiers, maximum of 16.
  • Registration: Please download the adult_registration_form.pdf and Activity Waiver.pdf , fill both out, and mail with a check made out to MBNA  to the address on the registration form (Ellen Axtmann, MBNA Coordinator, 500 S. 11th Street, Laramie, WY 82070).
